Where Is CHAMPS Going This Summer?
Kimberly is on-the-go again!
The CHAMPS Team (Kimberly, Rachel, and Canine Ambassador Utsi) will travel to multiple universities over the summer to conduct what MLI has deemed Teach-the-Teacher events.
They will visit secondary school teachers attending Advanced Placement Institutes throughout the summer. Last year, CHAMPS Mentor Susan Hollier invited the CHAMPS Team to speak at these annual events. Those presentations kicked off 5 new CHAMPS and CHAMPS International Campaigns. Susan was kind enough to invite the Team again this summer!
The schedule is:
July 13-15 Texas Christian University (TCU), Fort Worth
July 20-22 Rice University, Houston
July 27-29 Texas Lutheran University (TLU), Seguine, Tx.
August 3-5 University of Texas, Dallas
We hope to see you on our travels!
Another campaign added in TEXAS!
Dealey International Academy in Dallas, TX, has just announced a new campaign to help young landmine survivors in Afghanistan.
Stay tuned for more info!
Vietnam & Shoreline, Washington VIDEO CHAT!
The first ever video-conference with CHAMPS Vietnam took place March 26, at 7:30 pm in Seattle which was 10:30 am in Vietnam.
The Evergreen School, in Shoreline, WA, has joined the CHAMPS International Vietnam Team for the US and participated in the call!!
What was supposed to last 1 hour went for even longer as the children got to know each other: talking about clothes, music, school and other things that kids love to talk about!
“What a wonderful opportunity for these kids, talking to Vietnam!” was what one of the mothers who was waiting for her son replied.
While the call with the CHAMPS Vietnam Team was going on in one room, another call with the CHAMPS Afghanistan Team was going on at the same in yet another room.
“This is really incredible, Vietnam and Afghanistan in one night, isn’t technology incredible?? This really is a great school!” another parent remarked.
Thirty one (31) students from the Evergreen School will travel to Vietnam in April to see the country, learn more about its rich history, and will be visiting the PeaceTrees Vietnam HQ there in the Quang Tri Province. They are hoping to meet with the CHAMPS International Vietnam Team while they are there.
We have partnered with PeaceTrees Vietnam
We have partnered with PeaceTrees Vietnam which is based out of the Seattle area.
There is an estimate 150 lbs of unexploded ordnance (UXO’s) for every square meter of land in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam. We are focused in this region, reaching out to schools for Mine Risk Education (MRE) in partnership with our newest partners PeaceTrees Vietnam.
On May 31 – June 1st there will be a campout at PeaceTrees Vietnam’s Landmine Education Center there in the Quang Tri Province. Some 600 – 800 children will be transported to this beautiful facility from throughout the Quang Tri Province…for a campout!
Our two CHAMPS Teams there in Vietnam will participate in this Campout to teach Mine Risk Education using skits, songs, plays, and poster contests! It promises to be an incredible two-day event. CHAMPS Director Kimberly McCasland will be there to share in the celebration of learning.
